3-25 Just a Hot Dog
Saturday, November 17th, 2007– Commentary –
Craig: Poor Leon. He’s just not going to get to eat today.
J.D.: I don’t know. He might get to eat. But not until Azriel goes away.
Craig: I mean the way his luck has been.
J.D.: At least the grill is still there. He can always get another hot dog if that one gets cold.
Craig: I love the effect you put into Liron’s wings. They really look like they’re giving off light.
J.D.: Well, I had to do all the pages with him in it with him as the light source, apart from ambient daylight.
Craig: It’s really neat to meet Angelina’s sister Alaina. Actually, it’s pretty neat just to think about Angelina having a sister. It makes her instantly more real, more accessible.
J.D.: I find it very interesting in most comics how the primary characters are almost always exclusively single children —
Craig: — who lost their parents to the Orcs —
J.D.: — or what have you —
Craig: — and are bent on revenge —
J.D.: (sigh) I mean very few of them have family relationships at all, and even less of them have healthy ones. Angelina and her sister may disagree as to the worthiness of Leon, but they don’t seem to have any contention between the two of them. Which is a refreshing change.
Craig: Angelina dresses much more modestly than her sister, but you can nonetheless see a strong family resemblance.
J.D.: In their taste in clothes, if nothing else.
Craig: Well, I do see a resemblance. The color of their skin, the shape of their faces, even the fullness of their hair. It’s cool.
J.D.: They obviously have very different tastes in men.

Please, please, please!
Be a recurring character, mister flaming-evil-angel man!

I feel so sorry for Leon.
So, so, sorry.

It’s just a hot dog… Heh, I first thought that it was quite spicy one.
That “LEON” bubble looks like the one Azriel uses. So this might well be recurring character.

I’d say that’s Uriel.. I’ve always imagined Azriel as totally black and white. (Might be because he IS black and white in Angband with Adam Bolt’s tiles)
Whoever he is, I like how he looks. Very well drawn.

Which brings up some interesting questions:
1) Does Mythband have uniques like Uriel and Azriel?
2) Are Mythband monsters like Uriel and Azriel really there in flesh (like Leon) or are they just data representing the real entity?
3) If they were there in flesh, could they survive being killed by a data-based character (such as Ranger)? If they are not there in flesh, do they have some sort of connection with the data representing them – some sort of in-between state? Perhaps really there enough to be able to kill Leon but data enough not to be really killable by him? Is *Leon* really there in flesh or has he just been turned into self-sentient data?
4) Would Uriel and Azriel remember having been killed by Ranger (the way Leon probably remembers meeting angel uniques and having to overcome the Maintainer Wall afterwards…)?
All in all, I think the last thing Leon wants is to meet an angel unique without a nice and fool-proof death-cheating way…
5) I recall Leon finding a Word of Recall scroll some time back. Does he still have it? Now would be an excellent time to use it… if he has suddenly learned to read Elvish.
Poor Leon has not, I guess, really forgotten the fourth rule: always have a reliable means of self-teleport. He just hasn’t been positioned to gain such…

I doubt the recall thing would work, as the colors seem to indicate that Leon is not in the Mythband realm at the moment.

I figured the realms of Mythbandworld are just something comparable to the different towns/dungeons/special areas featured by all those overly advanced *band variants. As far as I can recall most of those allow recalling from one realm to another to some extent at least. I don’t know much about Mythband realms of course.

I’m thinking that’s a really good call on the text Timo. Azriel is probably a pretty good guess about who it is.
I don’t know that I would think Leon is in any immediate danger. This mysterious, hardcore-looking, flaming archon(?) appears pretty fearsome, yes, but notice he doesn’t have a sword. In addition to that, Leon is with his newly made friend. I think Angela would probably jump to his aid, and her sister and sister’s 2 friends would probably jump to her aid… Unless this new guy is some sort of law enforcer and they would be calling down the wrath of the powers that be in doing so. Even then I think she might step in and ask some questions to find out what’s going on before she let something happen to Leon.
My take on what is likely to happen: Leon, due to a combination of a lack of food and all the strain that has been put on him (what with almost dying and all), coupled with the sudden appearance of an obviously powerful being shouting his name, could end up fainting in the next frame. Leon is pretty tough, so it’s very possible he could just yell in fear a little bit, but I could see him potentially fainting.

I don’t think so; that ‘Arrgh’ seems to indicate he’s more frustrated than frightened. Then again, he did just learn his hot dog’s going to get cold before he can eat it.
On another note: Alaina has two ‘umfriends’? This should be interesting in further detail, as an cultural note on Archons or as an aspect of Alaina’s personal life.
Although, I worry about Leon’s noting himself as her date; we don’t know how this… ‘love tap’ has been described by Angelina up to this point, and he could be blowing a hole big enough to stuff Morgoth through in her alibi.
