3-23 Wakey Wakey
Sunday, November 4th, 2007– Commentary –
J.D.: You know, it’s interesting: how some of the panels people find most impressive are often panels that didn’t necessarily require a lot of time to work on them. While panels like the last one in this page take hours and hours of work and yet they’re very easy to gloss over because they’re crowd scenes.
Craig: I know what you mean — there is wealth of beautiful art in, for example, Girl Genius, that hides in the background of the plot, so to speak, but on a second reading tell an entire tale of their own.
J.D.: I do it myself. I’m as guilty as the next person of devouring a story so quickly the first time through that I largely miss all of the care that went into things that were not central. And I didn’t really think about it much until you mentioned it the other day with regards to Hikaru No Go —
Craig: An awesome manga, by the way —
J.D.: — and then I found myself working on the last panel and realized how true it was.
Craig: I had a lot of fun with this page. I challenged myself to invent as many different kinds of archons as I could. Elemental archons, umbral and aural archons, and so forth. The trio in panel 3 were very fun.
J.D.: So what kinds of archons are they?
Craig: From left to right, that is an umbral archon, an ice elemental archon, and an aural archon. All three are “unrevealed”, so we don’t see power radiating from them.
J.D.: Like we did when Angelina lost her temper with Leon?
Craig: Exactly.
J.D.: That seems to happen a lot to Leon. He mouths off, someone loses their temper, and with his luck it’s always some kind of being of power, more than capable of punishing him for said mouthing off.
Craig: And yet, Leon always seems to hang on and survive it.
J.D.: I hope his luck holds out. 🙂

Hee, hee. Angel explosion 🙂
That “Nope” comment is hilarious.

Reminds me of “Exponential Growth” from The Angband Comic.

Kinda hard to stop laughing; until remembering all those hostile angels found in the pits of Angband, that is. They summoned their kids for battle too? I hope not. Yuck.

I hope someone summoned Azriel… I doubt he likes a death-cheater very much 🙂

Riiight…Leon was dying. Almost forgot about that bit.
Is that a barbeque in the back right of the last frame? What’s…uhh…for dinner?
Angelina is really quite well done in frame 4, I must say. Do we ever get a translation of the first two frames?

Hehehe, ah, nicely done …

Joel: Translation of the text in panels 1 through 3 is left as an exercise to the reader… those who like cryptograms, that is.
Glad you liked Angelina in panel 4. Drawing close-ups is a little scary — have to get every detail right. 🙂

Yay for commentary!

And so we rejoin Leon. Glad to see that he’s come through it. I think the real question is “Has he learned anything from this experience?”

Something tells me that the trio are somehow related to Angelina… if only in some unseen connection, and the lady’s being of her…
What’s the correct term for a variant of the same letter of a game like Mythband? I don’t think it’s ‘Species’, but ‘Race’ sounds wrong, as do ‘Class’ ‘Subclass’ ‘Type’ and ‘Form’.

Letter.
