2-7 Integrity
Tuesday, May 8th, 2007J.D.: In panel 1 the speech balloons should actually be circular since Leon’s not saying these things out loud.
Craig: The sign with the down-arrow painted on it is one of my favorite Mythband features. Back before we ever conceived of Penance, I would draw that sign-with-arrow next to my doodlings of my Angband characters. I was happy that I could feature it in the comic.
Kitsune (visiting): Lucky never listens to anyone, does she?
J.D.: Nope. Though she’d probably survive longer if she did. It’s funny that she was so excited about getting a mentor–
Kitsune: –and then she never listens to him!
Craig: It’s not so much that she doesn’t listen to him. I think it’s more that Lucky plays Mythband on her own terms. She knows what makes games fun for her, and she’s not interested in playing a different way. I get the feeling that she’s played with power gamers before, and she had a bad experience.
J.D.: She does seem to be unnecessarily stubborn.
Craig: I gotta say I love Leon’s new outfit.
J.D.: Oh? Coming around to the Errol Flynn look, are you?
Craig: No, actually I like it because he looks less like Errol Flynn.
J.D.: That’s true. Old Errol didn’t go in much for the chain mail thing.

What sign with down-arrow did you mention? I can’t see anything like that in this strip (there are arrows to other directions though)

I like that the signs were > and

Reposting because it was truncated:
I like that the signs were ‘greater than’ and ‘less than’. That blends the game elements to the story well. I almost wish that there had been an ‘a’ on the ant somewhere….like in the shading or the shape of the eye or….well, you get the idea. Kind of like how the building has a sign with a 2 on it. Just some subtle reminder that this is the game world.
I am curious about the symbol on the tie for his cloak, though. It reminds me of a three, but I’m sure it’s something else. Will we find out later?

Luckluster, if you’ve played any of the Hack/Band games, you’d know which keys took you down into the dungeon or up into the town. Those are the “arrows” referred to in the commentary.

The > sign reminds me of the ADOM gallery… (http://www.adom.de/adom/gallery.php3 if you haven’t seen it)

Lackluster: By “down arrow”, I actually meant “greater-than sign.” I’m so used to it taking you deeper into the dungeon that I called it the wrong name. 🙂
SQLGuru: You’re right, the symbol on Leon’s cloak is significant. J.D. and I will be discussing it later on in the comic.

I also automatically take “down arrow” to mean “>”.
Having those signs is a nice touch. Putting an “a” on the ant would be a bit corny though in my opinion =)

I wasn’t thinking of an obvious a. More like the shape of the eye being the outline of an a or have shadows fall just right so that an a like shape appeared in the shading or have some “juices” oozing from the arrow wound that took that shape. Just some subtle hint that ties back to the game.

By the same token, there should be an ‘@’ on Lucky somewhere… hang on, there is, isn’t there? In that amulet she’s wearing?
I also automatically take a ‘>’ for a down arrow…

Errol Flynn is gay; make him look like Clint Eastwood!

Ojomax: Good eyes! That is indeed an @ on Lucky’s clasp.

I would guess that the 3 is his number of respawns. Since its unrealistic to expect him to live to the end right away.

It is a bit of a stylized 3, unlike the giant 2 he stands next to.
