1-18 – Return
Friday, March 9th, 2007J.D.: I saw a scrawny-looking cat outside the other day and I thought — “yeah, that’s pretty pathetic.”
Craig: I like how the Maintainer uses what looks like an early 90’s era desktop computer, back when there was a difference between “desktop” and “tower”. His CRT monitor gives me a headache just looking at it.
J.D.: Somehow he doesn’t seem to me like someone who gets rid of his old computer very often.
Craig: Old computers don’t die, they just become file servers.
J.D.: His wife must love that. I wonder how many “file servers” he’s got piled up offscreen.
Craig: The doll by the Maintainer’s computer is patterned after a real stuffed Cthuhlu doll we have that we’ve named Nelson. I posted a picture of Nelson on Chambrook for your enjoyment.

Poor Lucky. She hasn’t got the killing mentality yet. Also she’s forgetting old wisdom. Is it not written: “It’s things as don’t look dangerous that are the greatest danger.”

Seems that the maintainer’s computer is an XT, with a green CGA monitor.. isn’t it? Usually VGA monitors are bulkier. That’s why the mouse seems to be unrelated (yes, there were mice that time, but they weren’t useful – especially with CGA screens. You could use a mouse with Norton Commander, but keyboard would be much more useful).
There’s something nice about old, dumb text-only terminals. Maybe because they are so dead serious.

Excellent job with the greenish light the monitor is emitting. You can see it faintly on the maintainer’s face as well as coming from the monitor unless my eyes deceive me.

Green light is excellent. In fact same effect is in use in movie “Matrix”. If you pay attention it also has greenish color in all the scenes that happen inside of matrix, and more natural colors othervise.

Anybody else notice that this ‘super-geek’ guy just happens to live in room 667?(as in .667 or 2/3’s rounded to the thousandths place) just thought I’d point that out 🙂
