2-12 Stupid

Craig: I might as well just say that every page is my favorite. But really, this is one of my favorites. We finally get to see the fundamental differences between the way Lucky plays Mythband and the way Leon plays Mythband.
J.D.: Leon’s expression in panel 2 speaks volumes as to his opinion of Lucky’s manner of play.
Craig: I still laugh out loud at how irritated Leon is when Lucky says that she could play a different game and get “good graphics.” Leon is, I think, squarely in the ASCII graphics camp of roguelike games.
J.D.: I do understand Leon’s frustration though. Because he’s trying to help Lucky and she won’t do anything he asks her to. I’m rarely in the “Leon’s in the right” camp, but in this one I’ve gotta side with him.
Craig: I must admit that I see Lucky’s perspective too. When I play Angband, I tend to invest myself in the characters I play; even to the point of drawing pictures of them or writing little scenes. I know, I’m a complete dork.
J.D.: Well, I am the epitome of the anti-munchkin. So I know where Lucky’s coming from. But at the same time, she asked the Maintainer to send her a mentor to teach her how to play Mythband, and she won’t listen to anything he’s telling her to do!
Craig: It was so much fun to draw panel 5. Leon and Lucky, nose-to-nose, yelling at each other. I had to practice it a bit to get the relative sizes correct. Trolls are much bigger than Westmen.
J.D.: The argument in panel 5 and panel 6 reminds me of episodes of Moonlighting.
Craig: Unfortunately for Leon and Lucky, Mythband is not turn-based, and they’ve attracted some attention with their shouting…

Oh dear, at times like this one fears Lucky will never learn the fun of Mythband. I mean, good graphics?! Pity that women talk so much there’s no room for what Leon says in panel 2.

Haha, you have to be good if you can pick out the worst race/class oombination just because it suits you for roleplaying. I love this page and his humor. ^^

Hahaha, you guys are so right. Panels 5 and 6 ARE like an argument between Dave and Maddie that you would see in an episode of Moonlighting. I’ve always kinda thought that Dave and Maddie had a thing for each other though…

I know exactly how lucky feels, at least as far as character creation.
If you check the entry in my website link, you’d see I know all about going through the trouble of backstory.
ASCII forever! 🙂

pretty much a commentary on role playing games in general. some are in it just to kill things. others are in it for the fun of the character, some are on a power trip…

I’ve seen this same information in other sources, but this was the first link I could find again: http://www.vancouver.wsu.edu/fac/peabody/game-book/Chapter2.html….other’s that I have seen group the players into general categories.
Personally, I’m an explorer. I want to see it *ALL*….every nook, every cranny, every magic item, every boss, every quest. Which the Rogue/Hack/Band games (as well as other RPGs) lend themselves to quite well. Lucky is (like many girl gamers) a romantic – enamored with the story and how it progresses. Leon is an acheiver – always looking to achieve the next goal.
Of the three of us, Lucky would have the most trouble playing a single player Rogue/Hack/Band game. But then, in an MMO world, she would have the easiest time meeting her needs.
