2-11 Family

Craig: The sign on the dumpster reads “Waste Masters, Inc.” A dear friend of mine used to work for (and hate her job at) a certain waste management company. I included the sign as a nod to her. Note how the dumpster is badly dented, as though from multiple beatings.
J.D.: I wish I had done a better job shading Ignatius’s face in panel 6. He looks great up to that point.
Craig: He doesn’t look bad; it just looks like the light is coming from a different direction.
J.D.: And it shouldn’t. He changed position, not the lamppost.
Craig: In panel 5, Ignatius makes a huge revelation — he calls Leon his grandson! Leon closely resembles his forebearer, Ignatius.
J.D.: Actually, Ignatius is using the term “grandson” loosely. Ignatius is more like Leon’s great-times-seven-grandfather.
Craig: Leon shares a lot of Ignatius’s features and body language. In fact, when I draw Ignatius, I first draw Leon, and then age and wither him to the correct creepiness before drawing in Ignatius’s hair and clothes. When he wears clothes. *shudder*
J.D.: Dim lighting is fun on wrinkles. But I’ve said that before.
Craig: Gih.
J.D.: Ignatius’s posture in panel five closely echoes Leon’s body language in panel 1 of page 2-7.
J.D.: I also love the look of Marcus in panel 5. He’s just a silhouette with gleaming eyes.
Craig: Yeah, it’s like he was suddenly eclipsed, and yet a glimmer of him remains.

I like Marcus in panel six more. It makes me think Brad Pitt in Interview with the Vampire. He also looks just like he should when Ignatius tells that he has an grandson. It almost doesn’t need the “grandson?” text, you can read that question from his face.

grandson?? wtf? I thought the nameless one checked his parentage back 14 generations. of course I suppose we will found out more later… and they are both her sons? how many kids has she had anyway?

it’s always the family stuff that is the most complicated? obtuse? backstabbing?
